Testing Information

PreACT - The PreACT is given to all sophomores in the fall of their sophomore year. This test provides students with a predicted ACT score and serves as practice for the ACT. The PreACT also has an interest inventory and the ACT Interest Inventory results provide students with a personalized view of interests with college and career alignment.

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is
offered once a year in October. This is the first step in the process of entering the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Program (top 99%). It is also a practice test for the SAT. Students are also given an opportunity to participate in the Student Search Service. Through this program, colleges may send students information about educational and financial aid opportunities. Sophomores will be encouraged to take the PSAT for practice. Only the score earned in the junior year can be used for scholarship competition. Register in September in the counseling offce to take the PSAT/NMSQT.

The American College Testing Program (ACT) is given annually to college-bound students. The highest composite score is usually considered by college admissions officers. Designed to assess each student's general educational development and ability to complete college-level work, the ACT is used for college admission and scholarship purposes. The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a college-entrance exam required by some colleges and scholarship programs. It measures verbal and math abilities developed over many years. Registration is online at collegeboard.com.
