Optimum. and Univision Foundation hosted a national essay contest for Hispanic Heritage Month in September and October of this year. They asked students in grades 6-12 to write how they connect with the Hispanic culture.Over twenty students from the English as a Second Language and Hispanic Heritage Language classes from the high school submitted essays about this topic. Optimum. and Univision Foundation awarded one finalist from the eastern, central, and western parts of the U.S. Stillwater High School’s Olivia Lao-Alvarado wrote about how the love of a musical instrument connected her to her grandfather in Puerto Rico and to her Hispanic heritage.  Olivia was awarded the finalist of the central region! As the winner, Olivia was recognized nationally through a zoom presentation and she received an ipad. The ipad will be presented in person in January. Congratulations Olivia! SPS is proud of you!

Óptimo. y la Fundación Univision organizó un concurso nacional de ensayos para el Mes de la Herencia Hispana en septiembre y octubre de este año. Pidieron a los estudiantes de los grados 6 al 12 que escribieran cómo se conectan con la cultura hispana. Más de veinte estudiantes de las clases de inglés como segunda idioma y la herencia hispana de la escuela secundaria presentaron ensayos sobre este tema. Óptimo. y la Fundación Univision premió a un finalista de las zonas este, centro y oeste de los EE. UU. Olivia Lao-Alvarado, de Stillwater High School, escribió sobre cómo el amor por un instrumento musical la conectaba con su abuelo en Puerto Rico y con su herencia hispana.  ¡Olivia fue premiada como finalista de la región central! Como ganadora, Olivia fue reconocida a nivel nacional a través de una presentación por zoom y recibió un ipad.
