Dyson Named Highland Park Principal

(Stillwater, Oklahoma, 3/11/2025) — The Stillwater Board of Education has announced Rebecca Dyson as the next principal of Highland Park Elementary, following the retirement of current principal Laura Gordon at the end of this school year.

Dyson began her career with Stillwater Public Schools in 2007 as a third-grade teacher at Skyline Elementary, where she taught for eight years. Prior to that, she spent five years teaching second, third, and fourth grades in Norman Public Schools. In 2015, Dyson transitioned to Highland Park Elementary, serving as both an assistant principal and instructional coach before taking on the assistant principal role full time in 2018.

A Tulsa native and Union High School graduate, Dyson earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Oklahoma. She also holds a master’s degree in Administration, Supervision, and Curriculum from OU.

Dyson and her husband, Benjamin, have four sons—Brayden, Brooks, Hunter, and Dylan—with one child at each level of Stillwater Public Schools: elementary, middle school, junior high, and high school.

“I have loved serving as assistant principal for the past 10 years and am thrilled to step into this new role at Highland Park,” says Dyson. “I love our Highland Park school family and am committed to helping every student thrive.”

Dyson emphasizes her dedication to fostering a positive environment for students. “At Highland Park, we are deeply committed to creating a culture where students can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Our staff works hard to ensure that all students feel safe, supported, and valued. I am excited to continue collaborating with our dedicated teachers and staff to help our students achieve success.”

Dyson also recognizes the vital role parents play in their children's education and looks forward to building strong partnerships with families. She plans to focus on collaboration, communication, and meeting the unique needs of each student.

“We know that Stillwater Public Schools is doing something right when we grow our own leaders,” says Acting Superintendent Janet Vinson. “Despite conducting a rigorous, multi-committee selection process that attracted candidates from outside the district and state, Ms. Dyson emerged as the best choice for Highland Park. Her experience, dedication, and connection to the community make her an outstanding fit for this role.”

Dyson will officially assume her new role in July 2025
