Juneteenth

JuneteenthThis national holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, the date that Union troops arrived in Texas to inform that state's enslaved population that they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation. This was the final state to be notified.

Juneteenth recently became an official holiday. Some offices and services may be closed on or near Juneteenth.

SPS recognizes Juneteenth as a district holiday. Offices will be closed, no summer academy sessions will take place, the Book Bus will not run, and meals will not be served on Juneteenth or the nearest Monday or Friday if Juneteenth falls on a weekend.
