• Golden Oaks Intergenerational Pre-K

    Resident reading to students

SPS is working to revive the SPS Golden Oaks Pre-K program, a unique opportunity for Stillwater's youngest public school students. This intergenerational program, open to families across the entire district, places a class of pre-K students at Golden Oaks Village for the entirety of the school year. This provides the students with the opportunity to connect and interact with residents at an assisted living center. The program began in 2014 and was popular with families until the necessity of COVID protocols meant a hiatus for the program.

Golden Oaks features a dedicated onsite class and activity room overlooking rolling hills, trees, and a pond. Children and residents get together at meal times and through activities like art classes and reading buddies.

The benefits of this program for both students and residents are many. Students learn patience, develop an understanding of differences associated with aging, enhance their vocabulary and social skills, and broaden their view of the world. Residents gain increased socialization and a greater sense of purpose, while benefiting socially, mentally, and emotionally.

As with all SPS pre-K programs, transportation to the site is not available, and must be provided by families.

Enrollment

  • Enrollment in the Golden Oaks program is limited by both a minimum and a maximum enrollment. If a minimum number of enrollments is not met, the Golden Oaks program will not occur this school year. If that minimum is met, spaces will be offered on a first come first serve basis.  To express interest in enrolling, please indicate Golden Oaks when enrolling your child in PreK with SPS
